Foto’s gemaakt, tentoonstelling afgeleverd bij antiquariaat Settembrini in Leiden, bloemen in de vaas gezet… even rust!

Ze zijn d’r!/ Arrived
De drukker heeft de sprookjesboekjes afgeleverd. De glimmende inkt ligt lekker dik op het ivoorkleurige papier met een beetje textuur. Ik moet nog betere foto’s maken. Maar nu eerst vouwen en kaftjes plakken.

The fairy tale leporello’s have arrived! The ink lies thick and shiny on the ivory paper with the nice old fashioned feel. Now on to the folding and pasting on of the covers. Everything will be ready in time..

Conceptuele kunst voor één keer / conceptual art for once
Conceptuele kunst in zijn pure vorm is meestal niet zo aan mij besteed. (Kunst met ideeën daarentegen juich ik toe.) Voor één keer heb ik mij er toch aan gewaagd.
Dit is de reden.
Een meisje dat ik ken doet dapper HAVO-eindexamen. Ze is een leerling die een extra lange schoolweg aflegt en diploma’s stapelt. Een van haar vakken is tekenen. Ze staat er redelijk goed voor, dus haar ouders duimen dat ze het haalt en niet nog meer jaren verliest. Maar het arme kind heeft een probleem: haar tekenleraar. Wat ze ook maakt, de docent haalt steevast zijn schouders op en roept: ‘Tsja, ik krijg hier helemaal geen emoties bij.’ Om als punt vervolgens een exacte 5,4 te geven.

Laten we dat soort onzin maar voor de kunstacademies bewaren.
In mijn verontwaardiging heb ik ook nog 100 kaarten laten drukken met dezelfde tekst, waar ik nu ijverig rondjes op zit te naaien (ik had er gelukkig nog een paar over van mijn laatste quilt). Ze zijn vanaf volgende zaterdag 13 maart te koop op de tentoonstelling bij Settembrini in Leiden.

I am no big fan of conceptual art (although I do like art that expresses clever ideas). But I am making an exception.
Here’s why.
A girl I know is taking her school exams this year. She had a difficult start and is now slowly climbing up the ladder of secondary education level by level – to hopefully end at university. All is going pretty okay so far, but she has problem. Her arts teacher.
The girl is taking arts for her exam. And whatever she makes, the teacher picks it up and yawns: ‘Yeah, well, it’s not doing anything for me.’ And writes down a C.
The private feelings of an art teacher are insufficient grounds for grading school exams!
So I made this piece of conceptual art which says: IT’S NOT DOING ANYTHING FOR ME. I also printed a 100 postcards with the same text. And now I am sewing on lots of little textile circles. Luckily I have some leftovers from my last quilt. The cards will be for sale at the exhibition in Leiden from saturday march 13th.
