Huisjes
In het dorp waar ik geboren ben staan veel kinderhuisjes. Driehoekdak, vierkantgevel, voordeur in het midden. De mensen die daar wonen spelen hun hele leven vadertje en moedertje.

In 1916 introduceerde de Amerikaanse schrijver/
columnist Don Marquis de poëtische kakkerlak Archy
in zijn column in The New York Sun. Archy is bevriend
met de sletterige straatkat Mehitabel (een reïncar-
natie van Cleopatra). Hun hilarische dialogen zijn
weergegeven in hoofdletterloos free verse omdat de
kakkerklak maar één typemachinetoets tegelijk
kon indrukken.
In 1916 the American writer/columnist Don Marquis
introduced the poetic cockroach Archy in his column
in The New York Sun. Archy is a profound as well as
a humoristic observer of life. He is engaged in a constant, hilarious dialogue with his friend Mehitabel, a slutty streetcat who claims to be a reincarnation of Cleopatra. Archy writes free verse without interpunction. A cockroach would obviously find it difficult to handle a typewriter.
